Holly Hutton, a radio personality and founder of Bear Hug Detroit, started the initiative in 2011 after a fortuitous post-Christmas sale led her to purchase 181 stuffed animals for just $75. These plush toys, which she donated to the Detroit Police Department's Special Victims Unit, were given to children in crisis who had experienced or witnessed abuse or violence. The positive impact of these donations inspired Hutton to continue collecting stuffed animals in memory of her late boyfriend, whom she described as a big teddy bear. Since then, Bear Hug Detroit has donated nearly 3,000 stuffed animals, primarily teddy bears, to kids in need. The organization accepts donations of new stuffed animals and monetary contributions, which are used to purchase more bears and essential items like diapers and blankets. Hutton encourages people to support Bear Hug Detroit by following them on social media, hosting fundraisers, or spreading the word. She is also available for speaking engagements to raise awareness and collect donations.
Hugs In The City was a successful event. Edo Ramen & Sushi Lounge presents Hugs In The City art show with art by artists, musicians, & the press: Roop Raj, Taryn Asher, Holly Hutton, Rob Stone, Andrea Isom, Katelynn Corll, Jackson Smith, MacKenzie Lea Porter & more!
Each year Edo holds a charity art show and chose Bear Hug Detroit as this year's recipient of the proceeds.

Bearhug Detroit is a charity founded by Holly Hutton, that collects, purchases and supplies the DPD with teddy-bears, stuff animals, blankets, diapers and more, for children that are in the midst of turmoil or crisis. When parents or abusers are arrested, children in the crossfire are left confused and upset. We try to calm and ease them with a simple stuffed animal to hold and cuddle.
Help us along with the Detroit Police Department to help kids caught in domestic violence situations by making monetary donations, donating new unused items, or sponsoring events. Contact us today to become involved, or to find out more!
